Spotlight on Sir Phillip Green
A new article in the Telegraph profiles Sir Phillip Green, owner of Arcadia and inspiration for retail sales employees.
Comprising chain stores such as Topshop, Miss Selfridge, Dorothy Perkins and Bhs, Arcadia is one of Britain's top ten private retailers, the newspaper observes.
The chains mentioned above have annual sales of £2.73 billion, with Sir Phillip giving himself a £1.2 billion dividend from Arcadia in 2005.
According to the report, the businessman is best known in the City for his two attempts to buy Marks & Spencer, with the 2004 battle pitching Sir Phillip against Sir Stuart Rose, his friend and the former boss of Arcadia.
"The Bhs and Arcadia purchases were high-risk, high-debt deals, but profitability at the businesses soon shot up," the report adds.
Meanwhile, the Daily Mail reported that Sir Phillip spent an evening out in Ibiza last month with Kate Moss and his daughter, Chloe.
