Sales jobs in smaller firms prioritised over 'Big Pharma'

An increasing number of employees are looking to work in smaller pharmaceutical companies over 'Big Pharma', industry figures are saying.

In news which might interest those in pharmaceutical sales recruitment, Pharmaceutical Technology Europe reports a trend towards employees in positions such as sales jobs choosing companies where they can have more of an impact.

Vice president for human resources at Chiesi Ugo Bettini claims for many looking for smaller companies, salaries are not the key motivating factor.

Identifying visibility as a key concern, he says this differentiates smaller pharma companies from industry giants, the news provider reveals.

Senior vice president of international commercial operations with Axcan Pharma Nicholas Franco says: "It's a lot harder in a larger company to move the needle."

"In a small company you can have much more influence on all aspects of the business," he claims.

Mr Franco suggests employees are choosing to work in smaller firms to avoid seeing their work's impact become "diluted".

In a statement made last month, head of campaigns at the Trades Union Congress Nigel Stanley claimed employees who are given an element of autonomy in their approach to work are most satisfied.
