Sales jobs 'are strong in retail sector'
Sales jobs in the retail sector are proving recession proof and could lead the way for a renaissance in the rest of the UK economy, according to one company.
The Sales Recruitment Agency said that the latest figures from retail giants such as Next, HMV and Marks and Spencer's all showed improvement and better-than-forecasted financial growth through June and July.
It stated: "The retail sales jobs industry is thriving despite gloomy outlooks throughout the rest of the UK's industries with job cuts and reduced working hours affecting a large number of firms."
Sales jobs should be buoyed by the news which follows figures released by the Office for National Statistics showing sales were up by 2.6 per cent in April compared to the same period last year.
Food retailers are also experiencing a resurgence, according to Richard Dodd, head of media at the British Retail Consortium, who said demand in the sector is still high.
