Abbott 'bolstered by strong sales growth'

One of the world's largest pharmaceutical companies has released its annual figures, which show that strong sales have helped yield a successful year.

Abbott's annual figures revealed that 2009 saw a strong performance and there was sustained growth in 2010, according to chairman and chief executive officer Miles White.

Those looking for medical sales jobs could be buoyed by the figures, which showed a third consecutive year of double-digit ongoing earnings growth in 2009.

"We delivered strong sales and earnings growth and took strategic actions to reshape our business portfolio for the long term, adding early and late-stage pipeline technologies, as well as new growth platforms," he stated.

The positive figures have been bolstered by Abbott's acquisition of Solvay Pharmaceuticals, which gave the company a platform in markets across Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America.

Abbott has also recently acquired Facet Biotech Corporation, which the company believes will strengthening its pharmaceutical pipeline in immunology and cancer treatment.
